Pollution from heavy metals (such as lead and mercury) and azodyes is an unseen killer.Its risk, world-wide, may exceed 150 million health hazard impacts include shortened life-spans, mental and physical retardation, organ malfunction, respiratory diseases, cancers and lesions.India, has substantial manufacturing and mining sectors,a number of toxic sites. Learn more about them and how they can be tackled from two eminently qualified individuals.
Mr. Jairam Ramesh, Minister of State for Environments and Forests, will highlight the importance of industrial pollution and outline the Government's initiatives for dealing with the issue.
Mr. Richard Fuller is President of Blacksmith Institute, a New York-based environmental non-profit that specializes in clean-up of toxic sites. He will demonstrate why clean-up of toxic hotspots is not only morally compelling (as an aspect of public health and poverty reduction) but also important for economic development.
Mr Tarun Das, President, Aspen Institute India, will moderate the sesison.
