“Stree” means “woman” and this ballet shows the different stages of women – from
the beginning she was created till today. It is a long momentous journey and I
interpret it mostly in solo items with a male dancer, who appears at key
moments and with an on-stage Sutradars (Narrators) in Hindi, English and Urdu.

Prasad has composed the haunting music. Rifat Sarosh has written the evocative
lyrics, which suggest, describe and evoke the moods of the “woman” as she goes
from the joy and the pride, through humiliation and subjugation to her final
manifestation as today’s “Durga” – independent and strong.
The performance will be at Kamani Auditorium on 29th
February, 2012. I will be inviting 7 leading lady personalities from different
fields, viz. Dancers, actors, lawyers, politicians, social workers,
bureaucrats, painters, parliamentarians etc. who will be honored.
