November Cultural Agenda 2013 |
Queridos amigos,
Con motivo del Día Internacional de la Eliminación de la Violencia contra la Mujer iniciaremos un ciclo teatral que, bajo el título Mujer X Mujer, pondrá en escena a lo largo de varios meses 6 obras de teatro contemporáneo español escritas por mujeres, y que serán dirigidas por otras tantas jóvenes mujeres directoras indias.
La figura de Raimon Panikkar, la teología trans-religiosa y el dialogo trans-cultural, servirán como punto de encuentro y reflexión a importantes figuras del pensamiento, la teología y la filosofía cristiana, hinduista y budista. El 30 de noviembre y el 1 de diciembre en el India International Centre dialogarán sobre estos temas intelectuales como Joseph Prabhu, Grevel Lindop, Ashis Nandy, Kapila Vatsyayan, Samdhong Rimpoche, Francis D'sa, Come Carpentier, Anand Amaladass, Jordi Gispert, Milena Carrara, y Bettina Baumer
El cine ecuatoriano actual volverá a nuestra pantalla con algunas de las mejores películas producidas en ese país. En el podremos ver entre otras las últimas y laureadas producciones de Sebastián Cordero o Tania Hermida.
Continua el ciclo de conciertos dedicados a la guitarra con un variado programa de obras españolas y latinoamericanas de la mano del guitarrista inido Theophilus Benjamin y de la laureda guitarrista vietnamita Thu Le.
Los amantes de la gastronomía española tendrán ocasión de aprender y degustar algunos de los platos típicos de la cocina madrileña, como su tradicional cocido o los churros.
Por último ante la excelente acogida de nuestros talleres de tango lanzamos un nuevo horario entre semana (martes y jueves).

Dear friends,
To celebrate the International Day for the Elimintation of the Violence Against Women, we will start a theatre series entitled Women by Women. During 6 months we will perform 6 Spanish contemporary plays written by women and that will be directed by young Indian women theatre directors.
Raimon Panikkar, the trans-religious theology and the trans-cultural dialogue, will be the starting point for the talk and discussion of important theologos and philosophers with different point of views (Christian, Hindu and Buddhist), on the 30th of November and the 1st of December at the India International Center.
The contemporary Ecuadorian cinema will be back on our screen with some of the best films produced in this country in the last few years, such as the awarded works of Sebastián Cordero and Tania Hermida.
Our guitar concert series will continue this month with a variety of Spanish and Latinamerican pieces played by the Indian Theophilus Benjamin and the awarded Vietnamese player, Thu Le.
All Spanish cuisine lovers will have the opportunity to learn how to cook and taste some of the most traditional dishes from Madrid, such as “cocido madrileño” or “churros”.
Finally, due to the great success of our tango classes, we will launch a new batch with a different schedule (Tuesdays and Thursdays).

Exposición: "El color del budismo"
“La presencia de un monje budista resulta inesperada en esa isla de lujo excesivo que es Hong Kong. El joven religioso, ataviado con la tradicional túnica naranja y con la cabeza rapada, acaba de descender junto con otros impresionables turistas del barco que une la bahía de Kowloon con Hong Kong. Todas las miradas se elevan ante la fila de rascacielos. El monje saca su cámara y retrata el skyline de Hong Kong, símbolo de la avaricia financiera. Este hombre dedicado a la meditación, la renuncia material y la vida monacal es hoy un turista más…” Jaime León (Fotógrafo y periodista).

The young religious man, wearing the traditional orange robes and shaved head, has just came down with other impressionable tourists from the boat that links Kowloon Bay with Hong Kong. All eyes are raised to the skyscrapers. The monk pulls out his camera and captures the skyline of Hong Kong, symbol of financial greed. Ciclo de cine ecuatoriano: "Pescador"
Dos cosas cambiarán la vida de Blanquito, un hombre de 30 años que vive con su madre en El Matal, un humilde pueblo pesquero en la costa norte del Ecuador. Se trata de la aparición en la orilla de la playa de cajas de madera llenas de cocaína y de la llegada al lugar de Lorna, una bella mujer colombiana que se ha instalado en la casa más lujosa del lugar.
Ecuadorian film series: “Fisherman”
Blanquito is thirty years old and lives with his mother in El Matal, a small fishing village on the coast of Ecuador. One day, the beach turns up filled with cocaine packets. Blanquito, along with his friend Lorna, decide to travel to Guayaquil, where people will pay five times more per package. Little does Blanquito realize that in the days that follow he will be staring at death in the eye and losing his head for love.

Concierto de guitarra: “Theophilus Benjamin & Tuh Le” El Instituto Cervantes de Nueva Delhi tiene el placer de invitarles al concierto de Theophilus Benjamin y Tuh Le, con el que continúa el ciclo de conciertos de guitarra iniciado meses atrás. En esta ocasión, el evento contará con la actuación de dos músicos asiáticos reconocidos internacionalmente, así como de la bailarina española Eugenia Carrillo quien bailará en estilo Mohioniyattam la Danza Andaluza de Granados.

This performace is a part of the Guitar Concert series started months ago at our center. Ciclo de cine ecuatoriano: "En el nombre de la hija"
La película cuenta la historia de una niña de nueve años cuyo nombre está en disputa. Manuela lleva el nombre de su padre, socialista y ateo; pero su abuela, católica y conservadora, insiste en darle el nombre que todas las primogénitas de la familia han llevado por generaciones: Dolores. La historia transcurre en un valle de los Andes ecuatorianos, en el verano de 1976. Manuela y su hermano menor, Camilo, quedan al cuidado de sus abuelos en la casa de hacienda de la familia, done comparten las vacaciones con los primos. Empeñada en defender las ideas de su padre, Manuela se enfrenta a las ideas de sus primos y abuelos, pero un encuentro inesperado le obliga a enfrentarse a sí misma. Oculto en la biblioteca de la casa de hacienda, hay un tío loco dedicado a liberar a las palabras de las ataduras de los dogmas. Con él Manuela debe romper sus propias ataduras y esto cambia para siempre su relación con el lenguaje y con los nombres, incluido el suyo propio.
Ecuadorian film series: "In the name of the girl"
A The film tells the story of a nine-year old girl whose name is in dispute. Manuela has been named alter her socialist-atheist father, but her catholic-conservative grandmother insists she should carry the name the first daughters of the family have carried for generations: Dolores. The story takes place in a Valley in the Ecuadorian Andes, during the summer of 1976. Manuela and her little brother, Camilo, are spending vacations with their cousins and grandparents at the family's farmhouse. Eager to defend her father's ideas, Manuela confronts her cousins and grandparents, but an unexpected encounter leads her to confront herself instead. Hidden in the family's abandoned library, schizophrenic uncle Felipe is devoted to setting words free from the constraints of dogmas. His wisdom sets Manuela free from her own dogmas and forever changes her relationship with words, including her own name.

Taller: “Cocina madrileña”
La gastronomía de Madrid tiene su origen en las tradiciones culinarias de la población que habitaba la villa cuando Felipe II la convirtió en capital de España, y que se ha ido enriqueciendo con las viandas típicas de los pueblos de la provincia. El olor característico de la cocina madrileña es el de la fritura en aceite vegetal que despiden los churros (elaborados en las churrerías), la tortilla de patatas, los calamares a la romana y bocadillos servidos en los bares, las patatas bravas, los huevos estrellados, etc. Según algunos autores, Madrid es cocina fruto de las prisas de las tascas y figones, de platos elaborados rápido cuyos sabores se resaltan cuando son acompañados por vinos de la región. Sin duda su plato más representativo es el “cocido madrileño”. Un estofado de verduras y carne muy popular, que aparece frecuentemente en el menú de los martes en los restaurantes de la ciudad. Contiene garbanzos, legumbres y hortalizas, carne y embutidos. Suele servirse en tres vuelcos o platos: primero una sopa hecha con el caldo; luego las legumbres y las hortalizas; y por último las carnes y los embutidos.
Workshop: “Cuisine from Madrid”
The gastronomy of Madrid is based on the tradicional cuisine cooked by the people who lived in the “Villa” when the king Felipe II decided to make it the Spanish capital city. In addition to that, the gastronomy of this area also includes the typical products from the near villages. The smell of fried food in olive oil is characteristic odour of this cuisine, such as from the “churros” (cooked in “churrerías”), the Spanish omelette, the sandwiches of fried calamari rings served in “bares”, the "patatas bravas" (fried potatoes with spicy tomato sauce), or the "huevos rotos" (smashed eggs with potatos ham and), among others. Some authors said this cuisine is a result of a quickly elaboration, as the “tascas” usually are crowded and the workers are in a hurry. The wines of the region are the perfect companion for this food underlining the flavour of the dishes. The most famous one is the “cocido madrileño”, that is a vegetables and meat stew which usually appears on the menus of Madrid’s restaurants on Tuesdays. “Cocido madrileño” includes chickpeas, legumes, vegetables, meat and cold cuts, and it is served in three different plates: first a soup made with the stock; then the lagumes and vegetables; and finally, the meat and cold cuts.

Ambientada en medio de la miseria de los pobres de Ecuador, "Ratas, Ratones, Rateros" narra la historia de Salvador, un joven ladrón envuelto en una espiral de delincuencia cada vez mayor gracias a su primo Ángel, un ex-convicto.
Ecuadorian film series: "Rodents"
The world of Salvador, a young and naive petty thief is changed by the arrival of his cousin Angel, an ex-convict in search of easy money, and with a hideout. Salvador gets wrapped up in Angel's twisted dealings in an attempt to escape from his suffocating family, dragging along his family and friends, in his criminal path. Where will this all lead?

Ciclo de teatro: "Mujeres x Mujeres"
Seis jóvenes y prometedoras directoras de teatro indias tendrán la oportunidad de interpretar seis obras teatrales españolas. ¿Por qué sólo mujeres?Al leer obras teatrales desde 1980 en adelante, uno puede descubrir que, desde entonces, las voces femininas tratan de aportar algo completamente distinto a esa idea del emerger y el modo en qué se ha articulado dicho discurso. Asimismo, las voces femeninas han sido marginalizadas desde antaño tanto en el terreno político como social y este proyecto es una iniciativa para analizar y entender el impacto de las voces femeninas. Este hecho resulta particularmente palpable en India, donde los eventos más recientes han puesto en relieve las numerosas fisuras que perviven en la misma estructura de la sociedad. WxW ofrece una oportunidad única para escuchar las voces de escritoras españolas a través de la lente de jóvenes directoras de teatro indias.
Theatre series: “Women by Women”
Six young and promising Indian women directors will be invited to interpret these six Spanish plays. Why only women?
Reading plays from the 1980s onwards, it appears that women’s voices bring something entirely different to this idea of the emerging self and how it is articulated. Also, women’s voices have historically been marginalized in the larger political and social discourse, and WxW is an attempt to explore and understand the impact of women’s voices. This is particularly true in India where recent events have revealed the enormous fissures underlying the structure of society. WxW offers a unique opportunity to hear the voices of Spanish women writers mediated through the myriad lenses of young Indian women directors.

Seminario: “Teología Trans-Religiosa, la filosofía de Raimundo Panikkar”
El Instituto Cervantes de Nueva Delhi, el India International Center, y la Kapur Surya Foundation organizan un seminario sobre la extensa obra del erudito Raimundo Panikkar (1918 – 2010) un pionero en el estudio comparativo entre religiones y literatura sagrada, cuyo legado supone un antes y un después en las relaciones entre las tradiciones espirituales de India: la teología cristiana y la filosofía occidental.
Seminar: “Trans-Religious Theology, the philosophy of Raimundo Panikkar”
Instituto Cervantes of New Delhi, the India International Centre, and the Kapur Surya Foundation (World Affairs Journal) are organizing an seminar on the wide-ranging lifework and scholarly insights of Raimon Panikkar (1918 .- 2010), a leading scholar of comparative religions and sacred literatures who made a signal contribution to the dialogue between the spiritual traditions of India, Christian theology and western philosophy.
