International Atomic Energy Agency, IAEA has said that there is credible information to suggest that Iran has worked on developing nuclear weapon design, including components testing.
In its report on Iran’s nuclear program, the agency says that efforts were made to procure nuclear related and dual-use equipment and material by military, individuals and entities, some of which were successful.
The report adds that the information on how to develop nuclear weapons was acquired by Iran from a clandestine nuclear supply network.
The nuclear watchdog has said that information has come from some of its member states, from its own research and from Iran itself.
Focus of the report is on Iran’s alleged efforts towards putting the radioactive material in a warhead and developing missiles.
It comes in the backdrop of speculations that Israel might launch a pre-emptive military strike on Iran’s nuclear installations.
Iran has maintained that its nuclear program is peaceful and won’t roll it back.
Prior to the publication of the IAEA report, Iran had dismissed it saying the report was based on counterfeit claims and prepared under US pressure.
Russia and China had asked the IAEA not to publish the report.
It is not certain what action would be taken on the basis of this report since IAEA Board of Governors meeting is scheduled only next week.Media agencies
